A brand new zero-bail policy takes effect in California's most populated county, Los Angeles. It allows some criminals accused of non-violent or non-serious crimes to be cited and then released, rather than be held on bond. Many law enforcement and civic leaders in LA County say this policy will undermine efforts to fight crime putting criminals back on the streets. A lawsuit has since been filed citing a dozen cities hoping to overturn the policy. Mayor of Arcadia, California April Verlato, joins NewsNation Now to discuss the new policy.
