Or visit www.drone-made.com for more info about flying a drone 🙌 Oleron Island is France's second largest island strectching over 32 kms and offering a real relaxing under rated retreat for locals and visitors. We have been fortunate enough to live here a few years and explore its most unique features across all seasons. The island was in the past a strategic land for military forces. The bay between the island and mainland France is home to several fortifications such as Fort Boyard and Fort Louvois which all served to defend the seaport of Rochefort. Rochefort was/is a military maritime base where France used to build some of its greatest ships for crossing the oceans and supporting colonisation around the world. The entire video is made on the island; mostly around the village "Le Chateau d'Oleron" located on the south end of the island and Chassiron which is the furthermost point in the North. Le Chateau d'Oleron (translated as the castle of the island) is in fact the village hosting the biggest citadelle protecting against Nazi invasion. It is now a peaceful village with about 4,000 inhabitants all year round that gets really busy in summer days. Chassiron is an icon for the region, with its black and white lighthouse, you won't be disappointing by the view up there (unless you've flown your drone just before and know it all by then). There are some nice villages around the lighthouse and a great shore walk that stretches on the whole island if you are feeling like a day hike. 📍 Places featured: 0:20 - La Capitainerie 0:37 - La Citadelle 1:05 - La Chevalerie 2.03 - Chassiron 2.09 - Boyardville 2.32 - Fort Louvois Our experience hiking and flying above Oleron was excellent although some of our footage is now illegal if you do not have the permission. We were lucky to fly there a few years ago before regulations come in place so please look them up before taking off above this beautiful island.
